My brother-in-law has one of those. Last Christmas (not the past Christmas) he drove it down from Ft. Wayne to Austin. It broke down in rural AR, and he had to have it towed to Austin. Cost him $400. It then took over a week to find a shop that would even look at it. But once he got it squared away, he toured the whole southern tier, and has since driven out to CO. It’s awesome. I’ve got a bette picture of it somewhere, but this was it as it sat in our driveway. He slept in it during his visit.

Agree overall, but we got a Total Wine that is closer and honestly has *most* of the selection and lower prices. I still go to the Spec’s near downtown Houston (OG) when I know I need to find something unique , or want to browse an amazing selection. But if I know Total Wine will have it, or I’m getting a keg for the kegerator, I go to Total Wine instead.

TDI swapped DoKas

Well, I guess that takes care of the reliability issues. Back in the early 90s, I worked with a guy whose dad had swapped a GTI engine into a Rabbit pickup. Talk about a sleeper!

And the diesel will get over 30mpg, even in that brick! The GTI engine in a Caddy is a popular hot rod swap, I’ve never driven one so equipped , but they’re fun even with a stock 1.7. Out here, the diesel versions are prized because they’re smog exempt, so guys swap hot rod engines into them. One of my coworkers has one with a VR6 in it, apparently it’s nuts.
